Environmental Impact Assessments, including public meetings and hearings, are a necessity of most major new projects. The key to the acceptance and approval of and EIA is credibility based on experience. Are the potential impacts well understood and quantified? Are the impact assessments based on sound, extensive and relevant knowledge? Are the proposed mitigative measures, or more properly, sound design and construction measures, reasonable, sound and practical?
