For historic transportation reasons, almost every major urban center is located on either a waterbody or river. Early settlers were not concerned about the impact of a 100-year flood or the necessity to efficiently move thousands of cars and people across rivers.

Consequently the river-related challenges for an urban environment and linear transportation systems are bridges and culverts, floodplain development, water intakes and riverbank stabilization methods - all areas of specialization for Hydroconsult's staff.
